Bigger, heavier is not always better, I think this donkey is also thinking this. I always choose to take 90% that I can handle. That is in my case:
12-25kn Fanatic Falcon 91 + Neilpryde RS:Racing 6.7
14-30kn Carbon Art Speed 50 + Neilpryde RS:Racing 6.7
20-45kn Carbon Art Speed 44 + Neilpryde RS:Racing 5.8
But these numbers are for everyone different, what sailsizes do you use???
Depends from some variables:
ReplyDelete- which place? (horst or grevelingen?)
- which sails (my newer rs-slaloms can be used much longer then my older overdrive's)?
- which weight? (with 90-95kg, I can call myself a heavyweight ;-) )
- how many combinations possible (with 7 boards, 9 sails and 13 fins are a lot of combinations possible... ;-) ). I will post an update quiver today on my blog. ;-)
Herm,
ReplyDeleteI admit your points have influence on the windrange. Some day I will write something about it but this are my simple rules:
Bigger gear <=====> Smaller gear
1) Pro-rider--------------amateur
2) heavy weight----------lightweight
3) Choppy-----------------Flat
Wow with your gear there are lots of combination possible indeed. I have a hard time just to figure my 3 boards, 2 sails, 5-10 fins out!!! How many good combinations do you have Herm?? I got right now 3 good combinations (you can see them above)
RS-Slaloms smart choise!!! I never told before, but one day I changed my sail (vapor 2008) with a dude (he was on RS:Slalom mkII) and that RS:Slalom opened my eyes.
Interessting to see that you can use the Falcon that early. I am about 98 KG. I am using most of the time my 7.8 m2. I will start using the 6.7 m2 when the wind is about 5/6 BFT.
ReplyDeleteCurrently I only own a Hypersonic 105. So i can't do a lot of combining. Currently I am looking for a replacement. My dream combination would be a Starboard Isonic 122 and a 101 or 94. But that will cost me a lot of money...

ReplyDeleteHey Mad,
ReplyDeleteI have owned a Starboard Hypersonic 105 too!!! And its fast enough believe me.
I did only 1 gps- session with this board and I regret it for over 2 years I sold the Hypersonic!
Session:

Maybe I could help you out with a cheap solution. Your hypersonic has a secret speedmode. Just tell me what is your speedsetup.
gr,
Erik
Hey Erik,
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should meet up when the weather is better, because I am really curious about that extra speed mode. At the moment I have a really hard time getting the board over the 60 KM/u.
Please contact me if you are around. On the Amstelmeer it is no problem for me to check your settings, and give some tips.
ReplyDeleteHi Erik,
ReplyDeleteI have a HS105, too, and would be interested in that tip on extra-speed. I am in the US, so it must be over email. Would you have any tips on fins. I am using stock fins, but thinking about getting something else.
